Mark King and Wayne Boatwright embark on one of the closest battles in the Australian GT Performance Championship when the eighth and final round opens at the Gold Coast today.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo driver Mark King leads the series standings by a mere seven points over Boatwright, in a Subaru Impreza STi.

King, from the Gold Coast, is hoping to secure his second GTP title, while Boatwright is chasing his first after four seasons racing Subarus.

Their showdown for the prestigious production touring car title is a reprise of last year's finale at the Indy street event, when Geoff Full and Brett Peters fought to the wire in an identical Mitsubishi and Subaru.

"Brett won that one for Subaru and I hope I can do the same this weekend," said Boatwright, from the New South Wales southern highlands.

"Mark and I have had a fantastic competition all season and now it's just come down to seven points between us and a big swag up for grabs.

"My total focus this weekend is on beating Mark and if I can win races so much the better, because first is worth a lot more than second.

The championship showdown, presented by Lukey Exhausts, has attracted 20 cars representing a wide variety of makes, including Holden Special Vehicles, Ford Falcon GT, BMW M3, Nissan and a works-backed Volkswagen.
