GREAT RESULT MARRED AT FINISH
Finishing in the top ten seemed too much to hope for at the Gold Coast 600 today after Trading Post Racing suffered a broken axel in qualifying and had to start dead last.
But a sensational drive from Jason Bright and international co-driver Alain Menu resulted in a seventh-place finish, with Menu surviving a frantic first-lap pile-up to emerge 19th on the restart.
He raced to 14th before handing over to Bright on lap 35 and a solid drive saw the Trading Post Racing Commodore up to ninth by lap 94 behind BJR team-mate Jason Richards. Disaster struck just five laps from the end, however, when the two touched and Richards span out, eventually finishing 15th.
Qualifying for the second 102-lap race starts tomorrow at 11am.

"I'm happy to finish at all around here, let alone in the top ten, but I feel bad for JR. He had obviously had a pretty reasonable race as well and it would have been good to have both cars in the top ten. There are certainly better days ahead though, and hopefully I can make it up to him.
"I thought Alain did a great job to miss the accidents on lap one and have the pace he did. It was a crazy couple of laps with the amount of carnage off the start there. He got past a few more-fancied runners after that and made up places when people made mistakes during his stint, which was the plan."

"I think I did OK. I was very careful at the start; I lifted up to avoid the stalled car in front of me. Then I was stuck at the accident at Turn Four and had to wait for the track to clear but even so I think we overtook quite a few cars there in that nonsense.
"At the restart I was too careful and Mika Salo got me up the inside. I got stuck behind him for a little while, but I was faster. I didn't want to try to get too fast because if I try too hard I hit the wall with no points. My problem is still the same; I lack confidence on the brakes. I have to keep a margin and even then I'm sometimes very close to the wall!"
