MARSHALL BATTLES ILL-HEALTH AT GOLD COAST V8S

Despite suffering from a virus all weekend, IRWIN Racing's Marcus Marshall has finished 22nd overall at the Coffee Club 400 on the Gold Coast.

Marshall battled health issues throughout practice, qualifying and all three races.

Despite this he finished 26th in race #1, 23rd in race #2 and 20th in the final race of the weekend.

Race #2 was especially tough, with Marshall having to seek medical assistance post-race.

The IRWIN Racing driver kept out of all the dramas to bring home a straight car for the weekend.

"That was very tough," said Marshall.

"I didn't feel great at the start of the weekend and I just seemed to get worse.

"The second race was a major struggle, but it was important to finish.

"I had some time with the medical guys between races and it's amazing how a good performance behind the wheel can make you feel a whole lot better.

"I'll now concentrate on ensuring I'm 100% for the next round in Bahrain."

IRWIN Racing Engineer Marcus Clarke was pleased to finish all three races and is looking ahead to Bahrain.

"Driving one of these cars at less than 100% is a tough ask," said Clarke.

"Marcus did a great job and it was a great reward to come through for a strong result in the final race.

"We have some new things on the way for Bahrain and I'm sure we can show further improvement.

"Like Bathurst, we are taking home a straight car, which is very important for our Bahrain preparations."

The 12th round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series the Gulf Air Desert 400 will run from 6-8 November.
