FIRST TOP TEN FOR FDSR

Tension on the first crazy lap of today's Gold Coast 600 gave way to jubilation in the Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing garage as the team scored its first-ever top ten V8 Supercar result.

Co-driver Fabrizio Giovanardi did an amazing job to dodge stalled and spinning cars into the first few corners and emerged 11th after starting the race P23.

Karl Reindler took over the battered Commodore on lap 40 of the 102-laps and managed the hectic, sweltering race to finish ninth overall.

Qualifying for the second 300km race at Surfers Paradise's street track starts tomorrow at 11am

"P9 is a great result for the team; we probably deserved to be there two weeks ago at Bathurst so this is very satisfying.

"Every panel on the car is crooked and the steering is bent but it makes it all worthwhile to get my first top ten for the season. It was seriously hard work out there though! With the car being so far from straight, it took a couple of laps to get used to."

Fabrizio Giovanardi
Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing Co-Driver
"I could have been really good on the start but two cars in front of me stalled. I had to release the power and touched with another car. After that I couldn't overtake no cars.

"I tried to keep the best pace I can but I had big trouble with braking. I really couldn't stop the car and had big over-steer over the curbs. My biggest difficulty is seeing where to turn in on the left side. It's a right-hand-drive car so I couldn't judge it. Definitely we need more time on the car but it's good fun."
