PERKINS GRABS TWO TOP 15 FINISHES ON THE GOLD COAST
Jack Perkins has turned in a solid performance to grab two top 15 finishes in the first two races of the Nikon SuperGP on the Gold Coast today.
Perkins steered his #11 BET 247 Holden Commodore to two solid finishes around the 4.47-kilometre street circuit today, an improvement on yesterday's qualifying of 22nd place.
Perkins was 14th in the first 34-lap race of the day and looked to be on the verge of going even better in the second hit-out, but brake troubles slowed his run and saw him limp his car home to a 15th place finish.
Garth Tander won today's opening event of the 2009 Nikon SuperGP ahead of this morning's race winner Mark Winterbottom and third place getting Will Davison.
WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...
Jack Perkins - #11 BET 247 Holden Commodore:
"To finish both races in the top 15 after qualifying 22nd is a pretty good effort," said Jack Perkins.
"In that last race we were nearly on for a top 10 in the BET 247 Commodore with a good strategy and a good pit stop, but the brakes deteriorated to the points where I needed to back it off as not to risk putting the car too close to the fence.
"To bring it home in 15th was a good result. I was pushing pretty hard and driving 120 percent, but only the smallest mistake can hurt. Just a couple of inches wide can have you in the wall.
"We still brought the car home and these two finishes are a good start to the weekend."
