PERKINS SET FOR OPENING 150KM RACE AT SURFERS PARADISE

BET 247 Commodore driver Jack Perkins will start from 22nd position for tomorrow's opening 34-lap encounter of the four-race Nikon SuperGP on the Gold Coast this weekend.

Although Perkins was 23rd in each of the all-in practice sessions earlier in the day, he felt that he just missed the opportunity of cracking the top-20 when he made a small error on the final corner of his best qualifying lap.

A fan of street tracks, Perkins is looking forward to moving the #11 BET 247 Commodore up through the field over the course of the opening race.

Mark Winterbottom won provisional pole in qualifying today ahead of Jamie Whincup and Russell Ingall.

WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...

Jack Perkins - #11 BET 247 Holden Commodore:

"It's a long race; it's a bit like an enduro," said Jack Perkins.

"Starting position is probably not all that critical as long as we can keep out of trouble and bring the BET 247 Commodore to the chequered flag.

"The layout of the track is fairly similar, there's no new barriers or anything.

"The way the track has been handling, and the way the car is, it's actually been a bit different from what I remember. We should have had our heads around it for qualifying.

"We were so close to being in the top 20 but I made a small mistake on the last corner. 22nd isn't that bad, it could have been worse. It will be head down and arse up tomorrow."
