Supercars has responded to DJR Team Penske's call for a review into Scott McLaughlin's speeding penalty in Newcastle, claiming that the detection system is 'foolproof'.
DJR Team Penske yesterday announced that it plans to sit down with Supercars to discuss the pitlane speeding penalty handed to McLaughlin in Newcastle, based on the fact that the team's data suggested there was no breach of the 40 km/h limit.
The announcement also included a detailed breakdown of the data that led to the Penske squad questioning the penalty.
Supercars, however, is unfazed by Penske's plea of innocence, suggesting that its own point-to-point detection system is 'foolproof' and that there could not have been any error.
“The Dorian timing system is a foolproof, point-to-point system with an accuracy to 1/10,000 of a second,” read a statement from Supercars.
“As a fixed system with a time-to-distance calculation the data is 100 per cent accurate.
“For the complete avoidance of any doubt there was no error.”
The penalty proved costly for title contender McLaughlin, who dropped from the lead to outside the Top 20 as a result of it.
He was then slapped with two more penalties as the race wore on for driving infringements, the final one effectively securing Jamie Whincup the 2017 Supercars crown.
