Supercars confirms 2017 schedule

While all the slots are locked down, the 15-event calendar features two TBAs – the Australian Grand Prix support races, and the newly-confirmed season finale in Newcastle.

What is known is that the Newcastle 500 will be staged in November, meaning that the calendar will be split from the start of March until, at latest, the end of November.

“Our preferred date for the event next year is 17-19 November but this won’t be confirmed until the date of the World Rally Championship is known so as to avoid any clash,” explained Supercars CEO James Warburton.

With the planned expansion into Asia put on ice until 2018, the majority of the schedule is unchanged. There are mostly two and three week gaps between events, apart from a four-week gap between Winton and Darwin, and Sydney and Sandown.

“As we did this year, we have condensed our calendar to deliver consistent and regular events throughout the season,” added Warburton.

“This will help build momentum but still provide adequate breaks for our teams.

“Once again in 2017 we will travel to every state and territory in Australia with the exception of only the ACT and host some of Australia’s biggest sporting events including the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from 5-8 October.”

The eight-event Dunlop Series calendar has also been revealed, with a first ever visit to Symmons Plains in Tasmania, and a switch to a non-points event at Bathurst, understood to be to help encourage second-tier teams to run Wildcard entries in the 1000.
