LAMBORGHINI driver Paul Stokell today continued a clean sweep of the Cleanevent Nations Cup at the Qantas Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, winning a thrilling second-leg race from the back of the field.

After taking out yesterday=B9s first leg, the three-time Australian driving champion was relegated to 15th starting spot for today reverse-grid event, but pushed his 500 horsepower Italian coupe into first place after just seven of the 10 scheduled laps.

V8 Supercar driver Cameron McConville, a new recruit this weekend to the Prancing Horse Racing Ferrari team, applied heavy pressure to Stokell over the final two laps but came up just 0.4 seconds short at the chequered flag.

"This is a good track for the Lamborghini and it was very fast on the back section of the track where I got past Cameron=B9s Ferrari. But on the last lap I got baulked by backmarkers and Cameron got pretty close again, Stokell said.

The reverse-grid format and pressure from McConville forced Stokell to drive flat out all the way, despite concern over the durability of the heavy Lamborghini=B9s brakes.

"I couldn't back off at all. I had to work for this win, but I enjoyed it," he said.

One of the day's best drives came from McConville's teammate Mark Noske, who brought his Ferrari F360 Challenge home in third place after starting 21st.

Porsche driver Dominic Benica shot from 10th to first on lap one, but slipped to fourth at the finish after running off the track twice at turn one. The cars will race for the last time tomorrow.
