Bailey Continues Queensland Domination

After setting the pace in initial qualifying yesterday in his Chev-powered Nissan 300ZX, Tasmanian Kerry Bailey almost matched that time with a 1m07.3191 to retain pole position for this afternoon's heat one of the fourth round of the Australian Sports Sedan Championship. The series round is running in conjunction with the VIP Queensland 500 for V8 Supercars.

Taking pole also means Baily scores one point in his quest to close in on another crown. Starting alongside will be West Australia's Tony Riccarrdello whose Shell Alfa/Chev ectched closer to the front running pace with a 1m08.8382 lap. Despite a poor second qualifier that included a spin and a broken gearshift, Daniel Jameson (in only his sixth race) held onto third position in the Jaguar/Chev.

The biggest improver at the second bid for a prime grid position was the Honda Prelude/Chev of Queenslander Steven Voight who elevated himself from twelfth to fourth with a 1m10.4343 and relegated Mark Stinson (Holden Calibra/Chev) and Phil Crompton (Ford Falcon) to the third row.

Dean Randle (Vic) in his Saab/Chev and Tony Wilson (Commodore/Chev) share the fourth row of the grid ahead of Mazda driver Ivan Mikac (ACT) and Mick Monterosso who had another disappointing outing with an engine missfire and handling woes, and is expected to improve. <pre> SECOND SESSION QUALIFYING TIMES SATURDAY August 24, 2001
