Stone Brothers Racing's Marcos Ambrose collected his fourth pole position of this year's V8 Supercar Championship Series when he out paced the field by more than 0.5 of a second in qualifying for round eight at Oran Park in Sydney today.

At a venue where half a second is a lifetime, Ambrose produced one of the most impressive one lap flyers of this career in his Pirtek Falcon to grab his 12th pole in just 34 starts.

His SBR teammate Russell Ingall also posted an impressive time of 1:09.8222 and will start sixth in the Caltex Havoline Falcon in tomorrow's 111-lap race.

The results capped off a big day for SBR which announced a deal with Ford for the next five years in the V8 Supercar Championship Series.

"Pole is important for pride, but 111 laps is a long way around here," said Ambrose.

"It will all be about keeping the car straight and good pit stops tomorrow.

"We have a technique for the shootout, mechanical and driving style -- and that's our secret.

"I think we have good strategies and have had all year.

"We are confident that if the race goes green for a while, that we have the package to get on with the job."

Ingall was fifth after the qualifying session and slipped one spot in the shootout.

Despite that, Ingall believes has a good set-up and the tools to give him a crack at back-to-back wins after winning the last round at Queensland Raceway.

"The shootouts are always a bit of a lottery, and I was reasonably pleased with my time," said Ingall.

"It would have been nice to be a couple of spots higher, but I don't think anyone was going to take pole away from Marcos today.

"111 laps is a hell of a long way around this place (Oran Park) and I don't think grid positions will matter that much at the end of the day after you have got into the top 10.

"I think we have a very good balance for the race."

Tomorrow's race will be 111-laps or 300k.
