BARGWANNA LEADS THE CHARGE FOR ORRCON RACING
Melbourne's Jason Bargwanna led the charge for Larkham -- Orrcon Racing during today's qualifying for the Betta Electrical 500, round nine of the 2005 V8 Supercar Championship, at Sandown Raceway in Victoria.
Following yesterday's disappointing practice session the team was forced to change an engine on the number 20 Orrcon Racing Falcon allowing Bargwanna to bounce back today and qualify just outside the top ten for tomorrow's 161-lap race.
With qualifying held under inclement conditions, the normal two 20-minute sessions was combined for all drivers to contest a single 30-minute qualifying session.
Bargwanna was joined in the qualifying duties by New Zealander Matt Halliday who took to the wheel of the Number 10 Orrcon Racing Falcon.
Both drivers showed improvement throughout the session to climb up the order with Bargwanna setting the 14th fastest time, less than two-tenths of a second outside the top ten. Halliday bettered his fastest time from yesterday by over half a second to set the 24th fastest time today.
Defending Champion Marcos Ambrose set the fastest time during qualifying while Garth Tander won the Top ten Shootout to start from pole position for tomorrow's race.

"It has been the story of the year really, I think we have missed out on the shootout by less than a tenth of a second on more than five occasions, so on one hand it is a bit disappointing but on the other it was a good recovery by the guys to get the car up to pace after very little practice time yesterday.
"Throughout qualifying we made some good improvements in the dry which gives me some more confidence. We will also look at making some more improvements after looking through the data tonight.
"The key to success in tomorrow's race is being faster than everyone else for 161-laps and if it is wet tomorrow I am confident that we can be very close to the front."

"It was my first ever qualifying session in a V8 which wasn't made easy by the changeable weather but I think I done a pretty good job and we continually improved the car from yesterday.
"The car is very good in the wet and we are getting it better and better in the dry with every lap that we take.
"There is still more time to be found in the car but this series is tough, to improve so much overnight is very pleasing.
"We will go over the data from both cars during today's qualifying session and hopefully make some improvements for tomorrow's race.
"It is good working with someone with the experience of Alain, our aim is to do a solid job and get the car to the finish, hopefully in the top ten."
