THE world's leading independent car audio company, Clarion Car Audio, will sponsor the 34th Sandown 500 motor race in Melbourne on Sunday 16 September.
The 500 kilometre enduro at Sandown International Motor Raceway will be called the Clarion Sandown 500 and will feature more than 40 of the world's fastest production-based sports cars, coupes and sedans, including makes such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Mustang.
The Clarion Sandown 500 expands Clarion Car Audio's portfolio of motor racing sponsorships.
The company also backs the Lamborghini Diablo SVO of Paul Stokell in the Megamantis.com Australian Nations Cup Championship and Nigel Williams' Proton Satria GTi in the Century Batteries Australian GT Production Car Championship.
Announcing the Sandown sponsorship, Ross Palmer, Chief Executive of event organiser PROCAR Australia, said Clarion added a prestigious name to a prestigious race.
"PROCAR Australia is delighted to welcome Clarion Car Audio, the world's largest independent manufacturer of car audio, as our partner at Sandown," Mr Palmer said.
"Fittingly, the Clarion Sandown 500 starts a new era in a race that has been run since 1964. From now on, the race will be for production-based cars, the very kind of vehicles for which Clarion manufactures its range of audio products."
The Australian Marketing Manager of Clarion Car Audio, Mr Lew Campbell-Smith, said: "The Sandown 500 is an institution in Australian motorsport and Clarion Car Audio is proud to contribute to the continuation of its great heritage.
"Clarion also has a great history, from its founding in 1947 to its many innovations in car audio equipment, such as the world's first fully-transistorised car radio in 1959 and the first in-car computer/audio system in 1998."
