ALEX DAVISON PLEASED WITH THE PACE OF THE IRWIN FORD AT SANDOWN
IRWIN Racing's Alex Davison has enjoyed his best practice day of the season, setting fast times in each of today's three sessions for the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge, the seventh weekend of the V8 Supercar Championship season.
Davison set the second fastest time in the in the first practice session, dedicated to those outside the top 50% in the field and endurance co-drivers.
Further proving that the IRWIN Industrial Tools Ford was on the mark Davison set the third fastest time in the second session, before rounding out the day with the eighth quickest time in the final 50-minute segment.
Importantly the IRWIN Racing team didn't dip into its stock of fresh rubber, setting all of today's times on used rubber from previous race meetings.
WHAT ALEX DAVISON HAS TO SAY:
"We were strong the whole way through and the IRWIN Falcon was good straight out of the box. We didn't have to make major changes, just minor tweaks which clearly improved the performance throughout the sessions. We are in the window and although we will make some changes overnight, they will be only minor which is encouraging heading into qualifying tomorrow. The pleasing thing is that we were strong throughout and we didn't make the jump on the time sheets right at the end with new tyres. We are genuinely competitive this weekend and being just 0.2 of a second off the fastest time is an indication of that. The IRWIN Racing Team now has to carry that over to tomorrow and aim for a top-10 starting position."
WHAT IRWIN RACING ENGINEER WES McDOUGALL HAS TO SAY:
"I'd say that was our best session of the year. To be second in session #1, third in session #2 and certainly being competitive in the final session is a testament to the fighting spirit in the IRWIN Racing team and Alex after our disappointing results in Townsville. Hitting the ground rolling certainly set us up today and we really made good use of all the sessions. We certainly had a good bank of used tyres to use today, and we certainly made sure that we made best use of them to ensure we are close to the mark ahead of qualifying tomorrow."
