Reynolds handed grid penalty for impeding teammate
David Reynolds has been dumped five spots on the grid for today’s Supercars race after impeding Erebus teammate Dale Wood during qualifying.
Blocking has been a contentious issue so far this weekend, with the long run down the back straight and the entry to Turn 7 a flashpoint between cars on flying laps and those looking to warm tyres.
The latest to be caught out is Reynolds, who qualified 10th but will start down in 15th after being found guilty of ‘reckless driving’ and impeding his own teammate Wood.
“Following an investigation and an admission of Reckless Driving (weaving on the racing line whilst warming up on to Turn 6, impeding Car #99) by Car #9, David Reynolds, the Stewards imposed a progressive Five (5) Grid Spot Penalty for Car #9, David Reynolds, in Race 8,” read the stewards report.
Simona de Silvestro has already fallen foul of the officials this weekend, copping a five-sport grid penalty of her own for her role in Shane van Gisbergen’s close call in qualifying yesterday.
She’ll start rear of grid today after qualifying 22nd.
