Top Ten performance for Team Betta Electrical duo
Team Betta Electrical drivers Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup are well placed inside the top ten following the opening practice session at Round 6 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Queensland Raceway today.
It was a case of steady as she goes for the Brisbane based team who like many of the Ford teams, use the Willowbank circuit as their test track.
With a proven race package, the leading Ford team utilised their time on track to work on a suitable setup for tomorrow's all important qualifying session.
Lowndes recorded the fifth quickest time of 1.10.6527 at the tail end of the limited laps session while team mate Whincup was only two 100ths of second behind him in sixth.
"We had a case of Darwin de'ja'vu today," Lowndes said."Our first set of practice tyres were not quite as good as we thought and I didn't do a time on them at all.
"Once we got out onto our newer tyres late in the session we were able to try a few things and get some direction for tomorrows qualifying."
After lapping consistently in the top ten for the majority of the lengthy session Jamie Whincup was confident he could also improve on today's result.
"My car was very good on newer tyres, we just need to find a bit more traction tomorrow," Whincup said.
"The track was very unusual today, the wind give the car a totally different feel to what we experienced in testing last week.
"I am positive we can make a few more gains tomorrow, there is definitely more to come from the car," Whincup added.
Qualifying for the V8 Supercars will start at 11.05am (Local Time) with the Top Ten Shootout at 12.05pm and Race 1 (100kms) getting underway at 3.20pm.
