BRAKE PROBLEMS HAMPER ORRCON RACING IN OPENING PRACTICE

Larkham -- Orrcon Racing will spend this evening analyzing their data to find the source of a mysterious brake problem that hampered the pace of Jason Bargwanna and Mark Winterbottom during opening practice at Queensland Raceway today.

Despite the brake issue both Bargwanna and Winterbottom continually improved their times throughout the two-hour session around the 3.22km Queensland Raceway.

Midway through the session Winterbottom ran as high as sixth while Bargwanna also spent considerable time inside the top ten before being outpaced late in the session.

When the chequered flag was waived Winterbottom had recorded the 15th fastest time and Bargwanna finished in 20th position.

With the times set by both drivers less than a second behind the fastest time of the day set by Mark Skaife they are confident of moving up the order during qualifying tomorrow once the source of the brake problem is found.

The action continues tomorrow with a 20-minute qualifying session and the top-ten shootout. The round is highlighted with a 90-lap race on Sunday.

"I am confident that we will have quite a strong race set up. During today's practice we spent an hour and a half working on the race pace because in Darwin we had a good qualifying pace but lost a bit of speed in the race.

"I was setting 11.4 and 5's, which are quite good times and this was for 10 laps in a row which was very encouraging, then late in the session we focused on our qualifying set up. "When we put a good set of tyres on the car we found a bit of a problem with a tyre and kept locking up the left front.

"To be inside the top 50% is the aim for Friday, so we achieved that aim and I am confident that once we get to the bottom of the braking issue I will be able to move up the order further tomorrow "

"It is a little bit disappointing, we had a quite a good chassis set up and good engine package. The times were quite competitive throughout the majority of the session but right towards the end of the session we dropped off a little bit with a brake problem,

"We will sit down tonight to analyse the data so we can improve the speed during qualifying tomorrow."

Jamie Wattam
Team Engineer

"The car is quite reasonable we have a couple of small brake issues, to find the lap speed we have to sort an issue with the brakes out.

"Generally both cars are quite stable and the drivers are very comfortable and happy with the chassis set up. I think the race package is quite good.

"We will analyse all of the data tonight, in particular the brake data in an effort to solve the issue under brakes."
