MCNALLY HITS THE TRACK

Mark McNally has made solid progress in his first ever V8 Supercar event at Queensland Raceway today.

As the practice sessions and qualifying progressed Mark's familiarity with both the track and the car showed clearly on the time-sheet as his times dropped in each.

Mark qualified 21 st in the field of 41 cars with a 1:12.8 lap.

"I am really happy with the way my times dropped from the first session to qualifying - over two seconds.

"I would have liked to be further up the grid but it is a reflection on the depth and quality of the field," Mark said.

"Nerves were a factor at the start but I got over them pretty quickly and started to settle into a rhythm.

Mark was in 20 th position and had set his fastest lap to that point on lap 4 when he was hit in the rear on the last corner of the track and turned around.

"After dropping back to 37 th position I gained my composure again and worked my way back up to 24 th position.

"It was a pretty good result considering the way the race unfolded," he said.

"We have a few changes to make to the car for tomorrow (Sunday) and I am really looking forward to getting back out there and having another crack at it."

Tomorrow's racing consists of the reverse-grid Race 2 and 28-lap Race 3.
