IRWIN RACING'S ALEX DAVISON OUT TO BUILD ON STONE BROTHERS RACING SUCCESS AT QUEENSLAND RACEWAY
Alex Davison and the IRWIN Industrial Tools Ford team will be out to turn around a recent slide when the V8 Supercar Championship Series visits Queensland Raceway for QLD House and Land.com 300.
Since finishing second at the Darwin round in June, Davison has been out of luck with steering rack issues at Townsville, and tyre woes at Sandown (Victoria). However, he is part of one of the most successful teams to compete at the Willowbank circuit outside of Ipswich.
Since the opening of Queensland Raceway in 1999, Stone Brothers Racing has scored a total of three round wins and seven pole positions.
Davison will be making his first Queensland Raceway appearance with the team this weekend. He has been one of the pacesetters on the lap charts in the races. On the flipside, he has not been able to carry that form into qualifying.
Just last week, Davison along with the IRWIN Racing crew, took part in a test session at the Willowbank circuit. After completing a successful day that included numerous technical upgrades and 174 laps of running, Davison is confident of a strong performance this weekend.
WHAT ALEX DAVISON HAS TO SAY:
"The best test day we have had so far. We tried some new parts on the IRWIN Industrial Tools Ford and that all worked well. We worked away and by the end of the day we are very happy with how the car is heading into QR. This year I have gone far better at tracks I have experience of. As I have done a lot of testing and race miles at Queensland Raceway, I have plenty of confidence heading there to race the IRWIN Falcon this weekend. In this sport you really have to chip away and we have definitely got better in the races. The big box we are still to really tick is qualifying. We have to make the top-10 in qualifying on the Saturday and then we can really make the best use of our race pace to score a result."
WHAT IRWIN RACING ENGINEER WES McDOUGALL HAS TO SAY:
"We used the test to fine tune the IRWIN Industrial Tools Ford for the Queensland Raceway weekend and we feel that we are on the money heading into that event. We know the track very well, but you also have to take into account that over a race weekend the circuit does change significantly. This track is especially sensitive to temperature changes. We want to qualify well and make the best use of the soft Dunlop tyre by being closer to the front and not forced to use it coming from behind."
