QUEENSLANDER Mark King edged closer to the leader in the Century Batteries Australian GT Production Car Championship with two wins from two starts in round five today at Queensland Raceway, Ipswich.

"It was great to come here and win on my home track. This is the second meeting in a row where we've won both races and it gives me confidence to push for the championship," said King, who beat home Graham Alexander in an identical Mitsubishi Lancer RS Evolution V in both races.

Series leader Ric Shaw, still 17 points ahead of King, finished fourth and fifth in his Mazda RX-7, with Wayne Wakefield taking two thirds in another Mazda.

One of the day's best battles was between Hippies Sports Touring class contenders David Wood (Honda Integra Type R) and Wayne Russell (BMW 323i), who scored a win each.

This weekend's races will be shown on Trackside on Network Ten throughout Australia on Sunday, 23 July, from 3 pm. Round five of the championship will be on 28-30 July at Oran Park, NSW.
