FPR ON THE FRONT ROW AGAIN IN QUEENSLAND
July 22, 2006 - FPR Falcon drivers Jason Bright and Mark Winterbottom have continued the Prodrive team's strong qualifying form with their fifth consecutive top ten shootout appearance, highlighted by Bright's third front row start in a row in his CAT FPR Falcon.
Bright was the biggest mover of the top ten shoot-out competitiors, gaining five places on the starting grid for today's first heat of the three race Bigpond 400 starting at 3:20pm. The 33 year old missed out on gaining a hat-trick of Pole positions by a mere one tenth of a second.
"We had some small braking problems during qualifying that we rectified for the shoot-out. I lost some time early in the lap and made up a lot of ground in the second half, so to be on the front row is very satisfying. The car is set-up well for the races, we'll just be keeping a close eye on the weather," Bright said.
BroadIP Ford Credit Falcon driver Mark Winterbottom continued his impressive form to set the 6th fastest lap of the top ten shoot-out, matching his 6th fastest lap time in the earlier qualifying session. Winterbottom's fastest lap time was within 4/10ths of a second of today's Pole position setting lap, which belonged to Garth Tander.
"We improved the car a lot for qualifying, and we have managed to set up a consistently quick car, rather than a car that would be very fast over one lap. I have not lost any places between qualifying and the shoot out which is good, as I have been working on improving my form in these single lap qualifying sessions. We have a very good car for the races ahead," Winterbottom said.
Today's V8 Supercar qualifying was held in cool and overcast conditions, with the threat of rain looming for the afternoon's opening 32 lap race which is scheduled to start at 3:20pm.
