Scott Pye will carry a broken rib in to next weekend’s Gold Coast 600, thanks to his heavy crash in the closing stages of the Bathurst 1000.
A steering failure led to Pye hitting the wall hard during last weekend’s Great Race, the DJR Team Penske driver immediately transported to hospital for checks.
He has since been diagnosed with one broken rib, but in a video released by the team says he should be fine to race at Surfer’s Paradise next weekend.
“We had fantastic speed all weekend – unfortunately it ended in a big crash and mechanical failure on Sunday,” said Pye.
“I’m okay. I have got one broken rib, which I’ve only just found out in the last couple of minutes.
“So I have got a broken rib, but I’m on the mend at the moment.
“I’ll take it easy for the next couple of weeks and should be back on-track for the Gold Coast 600 next weekend.”
Despite the injury, it has been a good weekend for Pye. Yesterday, it was confirmed that he will stay with the squad for the 2016 season, joining Fabian Coulthard as part of an expanded DJR Team Penske line-up.
