Monster Energy/Gear Wrench driver Scott Pye has finished today’s two Dunlop Series practice sessions at Winton Motor Raceway in 11th place.
Pye got up to speed gradually in the opening 40-minute session, reacquainting himself with the tricky 3km Victorian circuit that he had previously tested on prior to the endurance events with LDM.
His second-last lap proved to be his fastest – 1:26.0382 was good enough for ninth on the timesheets.A limited tyre bank meant the Triple Eight Race Engineering driver could only manage 13th fastest in the second and final session of the day, a 1:26.2658 lap his best effort.
On combined times he slotted into 11th, a result he is looking to move forward from tomorrow.
"The track conditions have been a lot different then we expected with different cars running over it, it’s changed the circuit since I ran with LDM," Pye said.
"It’s also been a different session for us in regards to tyres but overall we improved the Holden over the day and hopefully tomorrow when we strap on some green tyres it will show and we can be right up there.
"Today was a pretty tough day - overall I think the Commodore's balance is very good but it's just frustrating with the tyre bank we've got for the end of the season.
"The guys did a great job and I think we are in a good position with the car for tomorrow.”
Tomorrow will see Pye qualify at 9.25am (AEDST) followed by Race 1 at 2.15pm (AEDST).
