Prodrive Racing Australia has opted to split its main drivers Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert across two seperate garages for the 2016 V8 Supercars season.
The category today released the pit-lane order for the coming season, the only major surprise being that newly-crowned champion Mark Winterbottom and Prodrive team-mate Chaz Mostert won’t share a garage.
While last year Winterbottom and Mostert shared the Pepsi Max cars, a sponsor re-shuffles means that Winterbottom will this year race a Bottle-O Falcon, while Mostert switches to a Supercheap Auto-backed car.
That has opened the door for the four-car team to split its two front-running drivers across two garages.
According to the V8 Supercars official website, Mostert has been switched into the #55 Rod Nash Racing-owned licence, which means he will share the second PRA garage with the Super Black car of Chris Pither. And the yet to be formally announced fourth driver, expected to be Development Series champion Cam Waters, will share the first garage with Winterbottom.
The major benefit to the switch is that Winterbottom and Mostert will no longer need to share a pit-boom, which would rule out any double-stacking issues during safety car pit-stops.
Triple Eight will essentially have the first two garages from pit exit, with Craig Lowndes and Tekno’s Will Davison sharing the second.
The only other shared garage/boom is the third Brad Jones Racing entry of Tim Blanchard and the single-car Team 18 entry of Lee Holdsworth.
