IRWIN Racing has broken into the top half of the field with Lee Holdsworth finishing 13th in the final race of the Tasmania Microsoft Office 365 at Symmons Plains.
Still in the early stages of the development program for the Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 V8 Supercar from Erebus Motorsport, Holdsworth's also took 17th in the morning race. If not for an incident in the opening race when the IRWIN Racing E63 left the track after contact with James Moffat (23rd position), Holdsworth could have collected another result inside the top-20.
Other positives signs from the weekend was a seventh fastest time in final practice, plus Sunday's qualifying performance where Holdsworth was 13th and 15th fastest.
On a track which was not expected to suit the Erebus AMG E63, the IRWIN Racing crew found a good balance and were able to improve the car throughout the weekend.
The IRWIN Racing team will aim to keep the positive moment going next weekend when the V8 Supercars return to Pukekohe Park Raceway south of Auckland in New Zealand.
The crew will transfer all the necessary cars and equipment into airfreight racks and containers in Melbourne on Tuesday.
