Porsche factory driver Matt Campbell is likely to return to next year's Bathurst 1000 as part of Triple Eight's plans to run a V6-powered wildcard entry.

While the proper introduction of the twin turbo V6 that will ultimately power the new ZB Commodore Supercar has been delayed until the 2019 season, factory Holden squad Triple Eight has consistently left the door open for Wildcard appearances in Supercars next season.
Those plans took a step forward with the announcement that Earl Bamber will join Shane van Gisbergen for the three endurance rounds next year, part of which referenced a wildcard entry for next year's Bathurst 1000.
It is likely that Porsche factory driver Matt Campbell, who drove with van Gisbergen this year but is not available for a full enduro programme next year, will lead the V6 wildcard charge at Mount Panorama.
The team is now assessing other co-driver options.
“The entry is likely to be run independently of the other Triple Eight cars and we are talking to a number of drivers for the Great Race entry – including Matty Campbell who we hope may be available,” Triple Eight boss Roland Dane told the Red Bull Holden Racing Team website.
“We’re also talking to several other internationally-based people as the other driver.
“Hopefully we can learn a lot, as well as allowing the new engine to give a good account of itself in Australia’s biggest race of the year.”
Should the wildcard plans come together, it will be T8's first additional Bathurst entry since it fielded Mattias Ekstrom and Andy Priaulx in a car back in 2013.
