STRONG START FOR SBR AT THE L&H 500
Stone Brothers Racing has completed a strong start at event nine of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Phillip Island today, with both IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Falcons running inside the top half of the field in today's opening practice.
The car #9 combination of Shane van Gisbergen and Alex Davison topped the time sheets early in Part B of Practice with van Gisbergen behind the wheel.
Progress on the other side of the SBR garage was just as smooth as its kiwi drivers with John McIntyre and Daniel Gaunt making gradual improvements throughout the session to finish 16th overall.
Alex Davison - Driver, IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Car #9
"All positive today, I drove the car early on and Shane did a fair bit of setup work in part B of practice so when I hopped back in it felt a fair bit nicer. I think we have a really solid base to work on. We do have a few things to improve on but it was just good to move forward today.
"The car feels different to mine in the little things, the brakes are different to what I have so it took me a while to find braking points and build up confidence as the session went on. It's all good, after today I feel really comfortable in it."
Daniel Gaunt - Driver, IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Car #4
"It was a solid day, Johnny had a great day as well. We came here and the car was quick straight out of the truck. We made some minor changes during the day and they all seemed to work for both of us which is great. We are both really liking the way each other wants the car so I can't wait for tomorrow."
John McIntyre - Driver, IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Car #4
"It was a great day, both Daniel and I got plenty of laps in and Daniel got up to speed really quickly on used tyres. We worked through some small balance issues with the car but we think we have a good setup for the race and setup for qualifying tomorrow.
"The car wasn't as good on new tyres as it is on used, which is good for the race but not for qualifying so we will just need to sharpen it up on new tyres and go back to our settings for the race."
The IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Falcons have a full schedule on track tomorrow at the L&H 500, with both drivers completing individual practice and qualifying sessions in the morning before two 14-lap races tomorrow afternoon. The action starts at 9:10am
