Coates Hire Racing’s Nick Percat finished today’s 84 lap V8 Supercars race at Symmons Plains 15th after being punted off the track in turn six of the opening lap, ruining his race and leaving him to play catch up for the rest of the afternoon.
Percat’s lap times and speed, which mirrored the leaders, indicated his true potential and had it not been for the first lap off track excursion, Percat was on track for a finish well inside the top ten.Craig Lowndes dominated the race to win from teammate Jamie Whincup James Courtney, Will Davison, Fabian Coulthard and Scott McLaughlin rounding out the top six.
Earlier in the day Percat showed a return to Friday’s form and qualified ninth fastest time.
Pole went to Jamie Whincup from Craig Lowndes, Scott McLaughlin, Will Davison with James Courtney rounding out the top five. All brands contesting the championship Holden, Ford, Volvo, Nissan and Mercedes were represented in the top ten.
Nick Percat quote: “We had a good qualifying session and my guys made all the changes to make the car quick again and I qualified ninth.
“I got a very good start and made it through the hairpin unscathed and got to turn six and got hit on the left rear wheel by Lee Holdsworth that threw me off the track and down to last.
“Thankfully the car was comfortable to drive which was good, as I had a cool suit failure heading to the grid, so it was very hot in the car. We had great pace today in both qualifying and the race, so I am looking forward to Winton next weekend”.
