Following a highly successful Grand Prix meeting, Paul Radisich and Shell Helix Racing started round 2 with renewed confidence. Three podium places ( two seconds and a third ) despite providing no championship points, restored a Ford presence at the front of the field and served notice that Shell Helix Racing are serious contenders for this year's title.
Saturday's schedule included two practice sessions of 45 minutes each, a 25 minute qualifying session and race one of Barbagallo's annual trio of V8 Supercar sprints. With track temperatures creeping over 41 degrees, tyre durability became the major issue facing the Shell Series teams.

Race One Dry,sunny,hot Starts: 7th
Lap 1: Radisich flew off the line, passing Bargwanna on the pit straight and taking a position from Ingall at turn one. Radisich starts lap two in fifth.
Lap 2: Ingall regained the place from Radisich at Kolb Corner
Lap 3-9:Radisich runs sixth, in Larkham's mirrors
Lap 10: On the start-finish straight, Radisich moves alongside Larkham and overtakes him under braking for turn one
Lap 14: Safety car joins the track while the cars of Baird and Ashby are removed from the sand trap at turn one
Lap 16: Safety car peels off at the end of lap 16
Lap 22: Radisich lunged into the space alongside Ingall on the outside of the final corner, Ingall pushed the Shell Helix car wide and Bargwanna joined the party, hitting the no. 18 Falcon and forcing his way through.

Running with Ingall for the entire 20 laps, Radisich was forced to settle for fifth and fourth overall on the day, coincidentally the same result as 1999.
