March 28th - Race Day - Eastern Creek Raceway, NSW Shell Championship For V8 Supercars Round 1

Race one Starting from 11th, Paul Radisich took the inside line into turn one, to dive past John Bowe's Falcon, but protecting his position Bowe nudged Radisich's new AU Falcon into the wall. Radisich continued to make moves on the top ten runners, although with the AU's temperature rising steeply over the next six laps, Radisich had no choice but to visit the pits for a diagnosis. The verdict - a hole in the radiator and a terminated debut race.

Race two The penalty for failing to finish the previous race is starting from the back of the grid, where Radisich was joined by Bathurst 2.0 litre team-mate Neil Crompton. Never-say-never Radisich accepted the challenge and in an impressive first lap, made up 14 places, into 24th. With full commitment, the Kiwi picked off a further nine places in what turned out to be a largely uneventful race and crossed the finishing line in 15th - collecting 20 points.

Race three After a storming start, Radisich made up five places off the line and was lining up his next victim when the race was stopped to move a stationary car. The re-start would be over nine laps instead of the original 13 and meant Radisich was in the position of repeating his form over the original first lap .Second time around, the Shell Helix driver made another good start and from 12th after the first lap, found 11th on lap two and worked up to ninth place by the final lap. A respectable and hard-fought ninth finish appeared to be Radisich's reward from a mostly frustrating day, until on the last corner, as he pumped the brakes, his foot went fully to the floor of the AU and he ran off the circuit, to rejoin and cross the line in 17th . " We have not achieved our goals at all this weekend and we have a number of areas we need to investigate before Adelaide", Radisich said after today's races. Next race: Sensational Adelaide 500 9-11 April 1999

March 27th - Qualifying News - Eastern Creek Raceway, NSW - Shell Championship For V8 Supercars Round 1

Paul Radisich embarked on his new season with Shell Helix Racing today, qualifying his Dick Johnson Racing AU Ford Falcon in 11th place, after a frustrating morning's testing - Paul's first ever visit to Eastern Creek.

This morning's test was not as productive as the team had hoped, owing to the loss of sixth gear, preventing Paul from driving the car in anger before this afternoon's fifteen minute qualifying session.

Shortly after qualifying, Paul said: " We changed the suspension settings before qualifying, which was a step in the right direction for the front of the AU, but the rear became stiff. I had an enormous off' at the first corner, which is completely unforgiving and I was lucky to hold on to the car. Really we needed two laps on the new set of tyres, but at least my only lap put me up in eleventh, with a chance to make up some places in tomorrow's first race."
