MELBOURNE 4 March 1998 - Paul Radisich had an excellent start to his V8 Supercar career today in qualifying for the support race to the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in 7th position.

Craig Lowndes took the first V8Supercar pole position of 1998 powering his VT Commodore around the lakeside circuit in 1:57.65sec., to outgun team-mate Mark Skaife by 0.29sec.

The first Falcon on the grid will be the new AU of Ford Tickford Racing's Glenn Seton, who clocked a time 0.99 seconds behind Lowndes. Following drivers were Ingall, Bowe, Perkins, Radisich, Longhurst, Ellery, and Bright.

Jason Bright had one of the dramas of the qualifying session, when he damaged one of the limited stock of AU front spoilers during a trip through the gravel trap. John Faulkner was also involved in an incident resulting in right-side damage to his new Commodore.

The most impressive efforts of the session include Paul Radisich, qualifying seventh in his debut sprint race outing, and Steven Ellery, who got the Chelgrave privateer car into 9th.

The first of four V8Supercar races is on tomorrow, with a further two races on Saturday, and the final race on Sunday, just before the Formula One Grand Prix itself.
