McLean Clinches Clipsal 500 Berth With Eighth In Pre-Qualifying At Mallala

Cameron McLean has passed the first important test of his 2002 V8 Supercar Championship season, finishing eighth in pre-qualifying today for next weekend's opening round at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

McLean was one of 16 drivers required to contest pre-qualifying at the Mallala circuit and needed to put the V.I.P. Pet Foods Ford Falcon XR8 into the top 11 to ensure a grid position for the weekend's two 250 km races.

"I'm much relieved and I can sleep well tonight. That's probably the hardest part of the weekend out of the way," the Brisbane driver said.

"Now the Paragon Motorsport team can focus on achieving the best possible result for the start of the championship."

McLean reported the new 40# Falcon ran perfectly today and he had a trouble-free run through practice and pre-qualifying.

Holden driver Mark Skaife was fastest, followed by Craig Lowndes (Falcon).

In addition to V.I.P. Pet Foods, the Paragon Motorsport Ford Falcon V8 Supercar is sponsored by All Power Steering, Eibach Springs, Freightliner Trucks, Jade Engineering, PPG Paints, Revolution Racegear, Screen Offset Printing, Snap-on Tools, Spandex, Street Smart Designs, Wurth and Cox Lawn Care Products.
