McLean & Doulman to share V.I.P. Falcon in V8 Supercar endurance races.
CAMERON McLean will share his V.I.P. Pet Foods Racing Ford Falcon XR8 with highly-experienced Sydney driver Peter Doulman in this year's V8 Supercar endurance races at Bathurst and Queensland Raceway.
The pairing for the V.I.P. Pet Foods Queensland 500 on September 15 and Bathurst V8 Supercar 1000 on October 13 was announced today at Oran Park Raceway, near Sydney, where McLean and his Paragon Motorsport team are contesting round seven of the V8 Supercar Championship Series.
McLean, 34, from Brisbane, and Doulman, 44, have a total of 19 Bathurst 1000 starts to their credit. McLean has finished fourth at the past two Bathursts, driving for Dick Johnson Racing.
Doulman, who has competed for the past 13 years at Mount Panorama, was signed after testing the Falcon at Queensland Raceway last Monday.
Paragon Motorsport team manager Ross Dillon said the team was delighted to have secured a highly-experienced co-driver.
"We carefully studied timesheets from past Bathurst races and could see Peter was a quick, consistent driver with a good record of finishes," Dillon said.
"That was confirmed with an impressive run at Queensland Raceway last Monday, when he met all our benchmarks.
"Peter has experience, speed and maturity, all qualities that are vital for our two biggest races of the year and a perfect complement to Cameron's natural speed."
After claiming two Bathurst class championships in a BMW and competing for seven years in a Holden Commodore, Doulman is eager to race a Falcon XR8 for the first time.
"I'm extremely happy about it. It's a good car and a good team and Cameron is an excellent, under-rated driver," Doulman said.
"I was very comfortable in the car on Monday and everything feels right. It's great t0 be part of a competitive team."
The Paragon Motorsport team has performed strongly in recent rounds, including a ninth place at round six in Perth, and McLean says the Falcon has hit form at the right stage of the season.
"We've been progressing all year and we should be in good shape for the long distance races.
"Bathurst is the pinnacle, but equally we want to do well at the Queensland 500, which is our home track and where our sponsor V.I.P. Pet Foods is also the title sponsor of the race," he said.
"Peter will be a great co-driver and I hope will help us achieve that result. He's very experienced and importantly will fit into our team well."
Doulman has taken over the co-driver's role from Queenslander Tony Scott, who withdrew because of pressing business commitments.
