James Warburton is set to leave the sporting landscape altogether, after being named as the new CEO of advertising firm APN Outdoor.
Warburton announce yesterday that he’ll walk away from Supercars at the end of the current season, after more than four years at the helm of the top-tier Aussie Touring Car series.
It’s been reported that his departure was related to a request for a pay rise, which was denied by the Supercars commission.
It’s now been confirmed that the former TV executive is headed back to the media industry, joining the advertising company on what’s being reported in business media as a $1 million dollar salary.

"APN Outdoor has a strong reputation for innovation in the out-of-home industry, demonstrated by its leadership position in digital roadside billboards in Australia and its leadership in New Zealand via the strategic use of data to enhance the value proposition of out-of-home for advertisers.
“I look forward to working with the board, management and staff at APN Outdoor to grow the business, to continue to build on its leading market position, and to provide innovative solutions to support both advertisers and the overall out of home industry.”
Warburton will finish up with Supercars three days before Christmas, before starting his new role on January 22 next year.
