ORRCON JUMPS OUT OF THE BLOCKS FIRST
Orrcon, the steel tube and pipe manufacturer and distributor, has jumped out of the blocks first in 2007 by announcing it has entered into a new corporate partnership with the Prodrive owned V8 Supercar team, Ford Performance Racing.
The partnership was announced today, January 1, at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Albert Park, Victoria, which is constructed of 800 tonnes of Orrcon steel.
Entering its sixth year of sponsorship in the V8 Supercar Championship the steel tube and pipe manufacturer will sponsor the #5 Ford Performance Racing Falcon to be driven by Mark Winterbottom.
Winterbottom, who finished third in the Championship last year, has enjoyed a relationship with the company in the past when he competed in the Championship aboard the Orrcon Racing Falcon during 2004 and 2005.
"This is our sixth year of being involved in the V8 Supercar Championship and it is hopefully going to be the most exciting yet," said Orrcon's Managing Director Leon Andrewartha.
"At Orrcon we are always looking to get the jump on our opposition and what better way to start the New Year than by making an announcement under one of the most impressive structures which uses Orrcon steel.
"We are extremely happy to be involved with a lineup which combines the experience of Prodrive with the high-profile Ford Performance Racing team. It is going to be exciting to be reunited with Mark (Winterbottom) as we have previously enjoyed a good relationship with him.
"The FPR outfit is certainly a forward-thinking, fast paced team which is something that matches our business culture."
Winterbottom, 25, is delighted to rejoin the Orrcon 'family' as he aims to build on his good form of 2006, where he recorded five podium finishes and victory in the final race of the year at Phillip Island.
"Last year was a superb year, for both me personally and the FPR team. Everyone's hard work within the team continued to pay off and we achieved some great results. In 2007 I hope to continue that form and become a significant figure in the V8 Supercar Championship," said Winterbottom.
"I've previously had a good relationship with Orrcon when I drove for Larkham Motor Sport. Orrcon is a forward-thinking sponsor which involves all of its staff and customers in its racing program.
"I'm excited about the year ahead and will be aiming to take the new-look Orrcon/Ford Credit FPR Falcon to the front during 2007."
FPR Commercial Director Rod Barrett welcomed Orrcon on board with the team.
"Everyone at FPR is delighted to have another blue chip company in the form of Orrcon joining the team," said Barrett.
"Mark (Winterbottom) and Orrcon have a strong history together and we're looking forward to working with the team at Orrcon on some innovative marketing ideas.
"In 2006 FPR showed its potential by finishing third and fifth in the Drivers Championship and second in the Teams Championship. The team also won two rounds, recorded two pole positions, six race wins and seven podiums for the year. In 2007 we are looking to build on these results to push for further success."
Over the past five years the steel manufacturer and distributor has set the standard with regards to leveraging a sponsor's involvement in the V8 Supercar Championship.
Orrcon's Sponsorship and Events Manager Stewart Smith is looking to continue the company's dynamic and interactive activities for its staff and customers.
"At Orrcon we've always focused on ensuring our staff and customers are heavily involved in our motorsport program and we will certainly continue this philosophy in 2007," said Smith.
"I'm energized about joining forces with FPR and working with Rod Barrett, Simon Derrick and the FPR commercial team on some dynamic activities throughout the year."
Winterbottom will take to the circuit for the first time aboard his Orrcon/Ford Credit FPR Falcon next month during pre-season testing at Winton Motor Raceway.
The 2007 Championship begins on the streets of Adelaide at the Clipsal 500 on March 1-4.
