McLean confident for Oran Park round.
Oran Park Raceway, near Sydney, has dealt out some low points to V8 Supercar driver Cameron McLean but he believes his fortunes deserve a break for next weekend's seventh round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series.
Following his best result of the 2002 season, ninth place in Perth four weekends ago, McLean is determined to continue the momentum in his V.I.P. Pet Foods Ford Falcon XR8.
Yesterday, after testing the car at Queensland Raceway, the 34-year-old Brisbane driver said he was going to Oran Park feeling quietly confident.
"Oran Park hasn't always been our best track for various reasons and so all of us at Paragon Motorsport are keen to put that finally behind us with another good haul of points next Sunday," McLean said.
"Certainly, we're in the best shape we've been all season. The new Falcon we acquired at the beginning of the year is now well sorted and the team also has developed into a very effective operation.
"So I'm looking forward to Oran Park to show again what we can do.
"Two 157 kilometre races on a track like that with close walls, elevation changes and quick changes of direction will really show up the good, fit drivers and the well-sorted cars."
McLean proved he was up with the best with sixth place in 1999, although in 2000 car problems forced the team to pack up and go home to Queensland after qualifying.
In 2001, his highest placing at Oran Park was 23rd, but with a much-improved performance coming on at the exact mid-point of the 2002 season McLean is hopeful of continuing his steady climb up the points ladder.
