July 3, 2001 - It has been a long wait for NRC Racing V8 Supercar driver Dale Brede for his next chance to get back into one of the fastest cars in the 2001 Konica V8 Supercar Series, the NRC Racing VT Commodore.
Buoyed by a successful test day at Phillip Island a fortnight ago, 25 year old Brede made the most of a series of improvements made to the car by the team since racing at the circuit back in May. The Canberra driver was in his best form yet and set impressive times leading into this weekend's action at Brisbane's Lakeside circuit.
This won't be Brede's first race at Lakeside either, the driver has competed at the circuit in a Formula Ford and is fond of the fast and flowing 2.4km circuit layout, which features the most rise and fall of any circuit in Australia besides Mount Panorama (Bathurst).
"I like the Lakeside layout a lot, but it will be very different in a Formula Ford to what it will be in a V8 Supercar! The team has worked solidly on improving the car and I hope that we can compete well in Queensland as we are all very happy with our recent progress. I am looking forward to racing hard there as we have been on the verge of some top results and this could be the round where we really spoil the party of the series leaders," Brede said.
NRC Racing has been able to concentrate its full engineering expertise on the development of the team's immaculately presented VT Commodore during recent weeks and the improvements gained have been significant for this V8 Supercar team and driver, who do not rely on Level 1 V8 Supercar team support.
Team Owner Arthur Abrahams is excited about the team's prospects at Lakeside, "Lakeside should be a good track for us given the gains that we have made in recent testing, along with everything that we have learned so far this season. Dale is as keen as ever to secure a top rung result and we are ready for what should be a great weekend's racing in the sunshine state."
