FERRARI driver Mark Noske snatched a last moment pole position in an exciting qualifying session at Wakefield Park today for round two of the Megamantis.com Australian Nations Cup Championship.
On a wet and greasy track, the provisional pole alternated between Noske's Ferrari 360 Challenge and the Lamborghini Diablo SVR of Paul Stokell.
In the last minutes, Stokell's best lap of 1 minute 8.62 seconds was answered spectacularly by Noske, who fitted fresh tyres and recorded 1:7.99.
Behind the all-Italian front row, the German Porsche GT3s of defending champion Jim Richards and Peter Fitzgerald finished third and fourth.
Noske said he had taken advantage of a drying track to secure his first pole position of the season and a one-point addition to his championship score.
"Conditions out there this afternoon were very damp to say the least, so it's sensational to come out of the session on top," Noske said.
"Now we've just to concentrate on continuing our good form in tomorrow's races. The car is feeling fantastic so I'm hopeful of having something to celebrate by the time the weekend's over."
The teams will compete in three races tomorrow, with Stokell aiming to maintain his lead in the Meguiar's Drivers Championship.
