As reported by Motorsport.com last week, Tekno Autosports is putting the finishing touches on a brand new Triple Eight-built Commodore, which van Gisbergen will race for the first time at Darwin next month.

But before then, he is set to give the car a shakedown at Queensland Raceway, with a preliminary date currently set in the first part of June.

According to van Gisbergen, the shift to a new chassis isn’t likely to make a major change to the team’s raw pace, but just creates a better working environment for him and the crew.

“The current car is old, age-wise, but it still goes alright,” he told Motorsport.com.

“And it hasn’t been too badly crashed or anything like that.

“But a new car is always nice. It’s good for the team as well; they can look at how they put it all together and make sure it’s right from the first day.

“So it’s good for them, and it’s good for me to have something new.

“Chassis-wise, I don’t think it’s going to make a huge difference. It’s just new and nice.”

Brad Jones Racing driver Fabian Coulthard will also have a new Commodore for the Darwin round, as revealed this morning.
