With the today's double practice sessions for the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint coming to a close, the two familiar faces of Chaz Mostert and Mark Winterbottom find themselves on the top of the order.
Although the conditions were far from ideal, the cold and wet weather did little to slow the Pepsi Max duo down who are fresh off of the clean sweep at the Australian Grand Prix.
With each practice session going for a full hour in length, this gave the teams ample amounts of time to ensure that their cars are set for the final practice session tomorrow which will be followed by a double round of qualifying proceeded by two sprint races.
Practice 1
With the rain coming down, Mostert posted the fastest time in the first practice session with a 1:02.277. He was followed closely by Erebus Motorsport driver, Will Davison, who is still licking his wounds after a horrendous start to his season at the Clipsal 500. Just behind Davison was Shane van Gisbergen with Jason Bright and Jamie Whincup completing the top-five.
Scott McLaughlin, David Reynolds, Winterbottom, Fabian Coulthard and Rick Kelly rounded out the top-ten.
Practice 2
Hours later, the second practice session began and there were several quick drivers who were keen on posting the top time. One such driver was Reynolds who momentarily held the top-spot before being shuffled down by Holden Racing Team (HRT) driver, Garth Tander. With only a few minutes remaining, it looked as if Tander was going to hold on.
However, with the weather improving, Winterbottom seemed to save his best for last as he posted a 0:51.399.
Although only .05s off the top time, Davison once again found himself in second followed by Red Bull Racing driver, Craig Lowndes. Tander was shuffled back to fourth as Coulthard posted a quick final lap which elevated him to the top-five.
Reynolds, van Gisbergen, James Courtney, Lee Holdsworth and Andre Heimgartner completed the top-ten.
Others of note were McLaughlin (12th), Whincup (16th), Scott Pye (20th) and Rick Kelly (21st).
