Mostert apologises for Winton crash

Chaz Mostert has apologised to the Prodrive Racing Australia crew after his game-changing crash during today’s V8 Supercars race at Winton.

Having taken a clean sweep of pole positions across the weekend, as well as a win and a third from Saturday’s two races, Mostert was on for victory in today’s feature race before crashing mid-way through.

The high-speed off on the run to turn four left him beached on top of the tyre bundle, and fell three laps down before being able to get going again.

That left team-mate Mark Winterbottom clear to take the win instead.

“Today didn’t quite go the way I wanted it to and I can only apologise to the team for spinning off,” he later said.

“We started the day perfectly with pole again and our strategy was working out as planned.

“I was leading and just dropped a tyre off the road and the car spun. It dug in and I couldn’t get back out without assistance so our chance was blown.

“A great effort by the whole team and [Winterbottom] on the win today. It was an amazing weekend of results so I can’t wait to get going again in Darwin.”
