Mclean To Focus On AGP Prep As Test Delayed
A Planned test day tomorrow for the new V.I.P. Petfoods Falcon V8 Supercar of Cameron McLean has been postponed until next month.
McLean's Paragon Motorsport team was to have tested the car and the new control Dunlop tyres for the first time at Queensland Raceway, in preparation for the Fosters Australian Grand Prix meeting in Melbourne next week.
However, due to a number of new components not being fully ready in time, the team decided this morning to delay the test.
"The rules of V8 Supercar racing allow us only one test day between now and the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, which is the first round of the championship and undoubtedly the toughest event of the season," said McLean, who has done much of the work on the Falcon himself in conjunction with Chief Engineer Steve Hines.
"Some bits we needed have been delayed, so rather than push to get to the track tomorrow we've decided to stay in the workshop and focus on thorough preparation for the grand prix.
"The grand prix will be a good shakedown for the new car and then we'll schedule a test to ensure we're in tip-top shape for Adelaide. That test day is vital and we want to use it to best advantage."
Despite the lack of track time, McLean is confident of another strong performance in the three V8 Supercar races at the grand prix meeting.
After qualifying 15th, the Brisbane driver claimed 9th and 11th place finishes at last year's event.
In addition to V.I.P. Pet Foods, the Paragon Motorsport Ford Falcon V8 Supercar is sponsored by All Power Steering, Eibach Springs, Freightliner Trucks, Jade Engineering, PPG Paints, Revolution Racegear, Screen Offset Printing, Snap-on Tools, Spandex, Street Smart Designs and Wurth.
