Le Nevez to play Peter Brock in telemovie

Matthew Le Nevez has been cast to play Australian racing legend Peter Brock in an upcoming telemovie.

Le Nevez, famous for his work in Australian drama Offspring, will portray the nine-time Bathurst winner in the ‘Brock’ telemovie, which begins shooting later this year.

“It’s never easy for a family to have their life made public,” Le Nevez was quoted as saying by news.com.au.

“Peter lived a very public life but he was always very respectful of his family… and I don’t want to exploit them in any way. I’m just hoping to hopefully share his story and his legacy to future generations of Australians.

“He was an icon not only of Australian motor racing, but of Australian sport. He was one of the first — if not the first — Australian athlete who wasn’t an Olympian to advise at the Olympics.

“I hope to respectfully tell his story in a way that his family and friends might be proud of.”

Brendan Cowell will play Allan Moffat in the movie, while Ella Scott Lynch will play Brock’s wife Beverly, with pop star Natalie Bassingthwaighte taking on the role of Brock’s girlfriend Julie Bamford. Steve Bisley will play Holden legend Harry Firth.

Brock was killed while competing in a tarmac rally in Western Australia back in 2006.
