Carr V8 Ford Quickest In Lakeside Gtp - But Carol's A Contender In Her Honda Hatchback
FORD Falcon V8 driver Brian Carr topped a closely-fought practice session today for round three of the Century Batteries GT Performance Series at Lakeside, Queensland - but a Brisbane mother stole the show with a cracking performance in a little Honda hatchback.
Carr set the fastest lap time of 62.36 seconds in the first of two half-hour sessions, with the next four drivers no more than 0.42 sec. in arrears.
All went slower when rain doused the second session, except Carol Jackson. She picked up 0.66 sec. in her four-cylinder Honda Civic to record 63.03 sec., the sixth fastest time of the day and fastest in the Poolrite 4-Cylinder class.
It was an impressive effort from Jackson, who beat two drivers of 5.0 litre V8 cars and the current Australian Formula Ford champion, among others. She had not competed in the GTP series for near-standard passenger cars since last July - and on that occasion she scored pole position in her class.
Second-placed Daryl Coon (Falcon XR6) said the fast Lakeside layout tended to reduce the performance differences between big and small cars and he expected a similar tight contest in qualifying tomorrow. <pre> CENTURY BATTERIES AUSTRALIAN GT PRODUCTION CAR CHAMPIONSHIP GT Production Series, round 3 (Practice):
