McFadyen 7th in Konica Race

WPS Racing's Neil McFadyen placed seventh in his first V8 Supercar race around Bathurst's Mount Panorama today.

McFadyen, driving in the Konica Minolta V8 Supercars Challenge Race, banked himself some confidence and gained valuable track time ahead of his appearance in Sunday's Bob Jane T-Marts Bathurst 1000.

WPS Racing team owner Craig Gore entered McFadyen in the Konica race to give him greater experience in a V8 Supercar at the challenging Bathurst circuit.

The tactic paid off handsomely for the 21-year-old from Sydney's outer western suburbs as he drove a steady race to climb from 14th on the grid to seventh place in his Ford AU at the finish of the 25-lap dash.

"We weren't the quickest out there but it gave me some quality track time and a nice result," said McFadyen.

"Going around this track in a V8 Supercar race is an experience I will never forget.

"I kept my nose clean and the race came to me."

McFadyen learned the importance of staying on track as he picked up several places as drivers started spearing off the track.

"It shows how important it will be in the main race to keep circulating and keep on the lead lap," he said.

McFadyen, co-driver in Car 48 to WPS Racing's Alex Yoong, will start from 33rd position in the main race tomorrow following a disappointing qualifying session on Friday.

Team mates David Besnard and John McIntyre, driving WPS Racing Car 23 Ford Falcon, will start Sunday's endurance classic from 21st position on the grid.
