Reynolds And Murphy Qualify Midfield At Albert Park
Kelly Racing drivers David Reynolds and Greg Murphy finished with midfield starting positions after qualifying for the Albert Park 400 at the Formula 1 QANTAS Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, Victoria today.
Reynolds will start tomorrow’s opening race of the weekend from 18th position aboard his #16 Stratco Commodore, with Murphy one place behind in 19th place in the #11 Pepsi Max Crew Commodore.
Earlier in the day Murphy was 13th fastest on combined practice times from the two sessions held, with Reynolds 20th fastest.
Shane Van Gisbergen was fastest in today’s qualifying session at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit ahead of Craig Lowndes, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom and Rick Kelly.
KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD:
DAVID REYNOLDS - #16 Pepsi Max Holden Commodore
“The Stratco Commodore is better than where we ended up in qualifying,” said David Reynolds.
“I'm going to stay positive about it and try to make the best car we can out of what we've got.
“It was tricky out there today because of the changing conditions and rain coming and going, but it's just as tough to learn about the car and the set-up with the new direction we are taking with the cars.
“So it's hard to know what the car needs but the work is slowly paying off.”
GREG MURPHY - #11 Pepsi Max Holden Commodore
“I thought we would be higher than that in qualifying after the two practice sessions,” said Greg Murphy.
“We didn't get the best out of our second set of tyres and we are not sure why just yet. Whether it was because we made a change or if we rushed the second set in terms of warming them up because we thought it was going to rain, so that may have contributed to our relatively poor lap time.
“Our time on our first set was not too bad but I was definitely expecting a better time on the second set but it never came.
“With two sets you are restricted somewhat and once we had used them we were not going to get another shot.”
