Tasman's Richards Eighth Overall In Top End
Jason Richards has taken eighth overall for Tasman Motorsport in the SKYCITY Triple Crown at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway today.
After finishing 11th in yesterday's first race, Richards was elevated to tenth overnight after Will Davison was penalised for starting the multi-car pileup that took out five cars, including Richards' team-mate Greg Murphy.
Richards finished today's first 42-lap race in tenth, then improved in the decider to ninth with the Airnorth Holden VE Commodore, to record his best overall result of the season, surpassing his previous bests of 14th in Perth and New Zealand.
"Overall eighth is a good result and we can be pleased, although we had good speed and perhaps should have been a couple places higher," Richards said.
"I think the speed we've got we says we could be running in the top five-eight."
For Murphy, like yesterday today proved disappointing, the four-time Bathurst champ not finishing Race 2 due to a dropped cylinder, traced to a plug lead which was broken internally.
Starting again from near the rear of grid, Murphy finished the final race in 14th position.
"Unfortunately there's not much to say. Due to factors pretty much beyond our control - innocent victims in yesterday's race and the proverbial $10 part failing on our Airnorth Commodore today - we haven't finished two races and scored few points," Murphy said.
Ford's Craig Lowndes won the round from championship leader Rick Kelly and the Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife.
Murphy remains 13th in series points, while Richards has moved up two places to 15th following today.
The next round of the championship takes place at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich on 20-22 July.
