WOOD BRINGS IT HOME IN DARWIN
Hi-Tec Oils Racing driver Dale Wood has made a solid start to the SKYCITY Triple Crown in his first-ever race at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, NT today.
Wood drove a sensible race, scoring a 25th place finish to move up one position in the points score, now sitting 27th in the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series standings.
The V8 Supercar rookie avoided several on-track indicents to bring the #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore home in one piece, set for a charge at tomorrow's longer race now that Wood has a race under his belt at the demanding 2.9-kilometre circuit.
Jamie Whincup won today's event ahead of Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison.
WHAT DALE HAD TO SAY ...
Dale Wood - #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore:
"The main thing is that the Hi-Tec Oils Commodore is straight and we've moved up a few positions, getting ourselves some good points," said Wood.
"I've now got a better idea of the track and it is pretty hot out there. I didn't realise just how hot it was going to be.
"The start today was OK, but there was a fair bit of biff and barge going on directly in front of me. I didn't want to get involved in it so I hung back and decided to hang back and make up what I could from the result of all that crashing and bashing
"That worked in my favour a little bit and from there we worked at bringing the Hi-Tec Oils Commodore home as best we could.
"We will make a few changes for tomorrow and get our Commodore working a little better for the longer race. The thing for us tomorrow is going to be very interesting."
