BARGWANNA NINTH IN KELLY RACING TRIPLE TREAT
THIS RELEASE RE-ISSUED FOLLOWING POST-RACE EXCLUSION OF CAR #5, CAR #6 AND CAR #17. RESULTS AND POINTS ALSO NOW UPDATED.
Jason Bargwanna has delivered Rock Racing its first top 10 finish of the season in a triple treat result for Kelly Racing in the final race of the ITM 400 in Hamilton, New Zealand today.
Rick Kelly, Todd Kelly and Bargwanna all finished in the top 10 in today's 59-lap race, the first time that Kelly Racing has had three of its Holden Commodores finish in the top 10 in the 18-event history of the second-year V8 Supercar operation.
Bargwanna qualified down in 23rd position for today's race aboard the #11 Rock Commodore but gradually charged through the field to finish in ninth position, helped by two slick pit stops by the Kelly Racing crew.
In the dying stages of the race Bargwanna was embroiled in a battle with Kelly Racing team-mate Todd Kelly, with Todd grabbing the upper hand with three laps remaining to claim eighth place.
Tony Ricciardello suffered his first failure to finish of the season in Hamilton today, with clutch failure aboard the #16 Stratco Holden Commodore on the opening lap of today's race.
Ricciardello sits in 26th position in the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series points standings, with Bargwanna in 18th position after eight races.
Jamie Whincup won today's race at the ITM 400 ahead of Garth Tander and Michael Caruso.
The fifth event of the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series will be held at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich, Queensland on April 30 to May 2.
KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD
JASON BARGWANNA - #11 Rock Holden Commodore:
"This is an excellent result, it's our best result for the year," said Jason Bargwanna.
"For the first time Kelly Racing gets three cars in the top 10 and clearly we are getting there.
"We're starting to get the Rock Commodore right, we made good changes in that race and as we keep this progress going, in a couple of months we should be right up the front.
"We went backwards a bit in qualifying this morning so we changed the set-up in the other direction and it's improved it for the race.
"We were much faster in today's race than yesterday's and much more consistent.
"I'm starting to understand what Rick and Todd have got and what they have developed and I'm starting to get my head around how to make the car's work.
"It's a tough game this, but we're obviously getting the results now. Top 10 is good so we need more of them and then we can start aiming for the top five."
TONY RICCIARDELLO - #16 Stratco Holden Commodore:
"On the start the clutch just started engaging on its own and the car stalled," said Tony Ricciardello.
"Then on the first flying lap, as I changed from fifth to sixth gear it just disengaged itself and we lost drive.
"It was a tough weekend for the Stratco Commodore but the crew guys have done a fantastic job getting the car out there every time.
"We're all bonding well as a group and as we keep working hard at improving I'm sure the results will start to come."
