BARGWANNA AND RICCIARDELLO SAVE TYRES IN HAMILTON PRACTICE
Kelly Racing drivers Jason Bargwanna and Tony Ricciardello have both opted to save tyres for the weekend's action in practice for the ITM 400 in Hamilton, New Zealand today.
Bargwanna was 26th fastest overall in practice today around the Hamilton street circuit aboard his #11 Rock Holden Commodore, working with his crew to trial various set-ups for this weekend's two 59 lap races.
Bargwanna is confident that he will be competitive tomorrow in qualifying as he aims to make his first Top 10 Shootout of the season, seeing many cars jump him on the timesheets today by bolting on an additional set of new tyres.
Tony Ricciardello turned his first laps around the Hamilton circuit today in the #16 Stratco Holden Commodore to be 29th fastest, gaining valuable experience and track time around the 3.4-kilometre venue.
Garth Tander set the fastest time in practice for the ITM 400 in Hamilton today ahead of Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen.
KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD
JASON BARGWANNA - #11 Rock Holden Commodore:
"Today was quite good for the Rock Commodore," said Jason Bargwanna.
"We were quite competitive early on but we made a few changes and went backwards.
"So we switched the set-up back to where we were and looking at the data we are very close to both Rick and Todd's cars are at.
"We didn't put new tyres on, which a lot of guys did towards the end, so come qualifying tomorrow I'm confident we should be in good shape."
TONY RICCIARDELLO - #16 Stratco Holden Commodore:
"The track here is good - we just need more miles," said Tony Ricciardello.
"We had a couple of suspension problems, which was a little bit frustrating but it's just one of those things.
"We're trying some new components so these things happen. It put us back slightly.
"I've just got to get more and more consistent in the Stratco Commodore and keep out of trouble because these are long races and a lot can happen out there with all that concrete around."
